Vision Mixed Martial Arts

It was kind of ironic that we had our gym open before we had a name for it. Some guys wanted to call it Rod Housley MMA, but I didn’t want my name on it. I thought that what we were doing was bigger than any one person. So I told all the guys to come up with a name that they liked. I wanted something positive though. I didn’t want a name like “Knock Your Teeth Out MMA.” I feel that something can’t be positive if it starts out with negativity.

One Saturday my daughter had a soccer game. At the game I took a thesaurus and spent an hour looking up words. Positive words. I would look up a word I liked, find similar words, and then look those words up too. After an hour and many words, I had found about five words that I really liked.

Later that night Dustin called me and said he thought of a word that he liked:  vision. I said, “Vision, it means beautiful thing, dream, conception, apparition.” I couldn’t believe it. I spent an hour looking through hundreds of words that I liked and narrowed it down to five. Dustin had come up with a word that was one of my final five! I knew then that it was meant to be. That night we decided to name the gym Vision MMA. Now I know I made the right choice. I am so proud when I hear people talk about how good Vision fighters are…it gives me chills.
